Emergency Crafters DT Card - Recipe

For this card I went for a simple design, I used Marianne Creatables for the central doily, I am particularly fond of the Anja Rose centrepiece.

Again you will notice there is definitely a hint of purple going on. But I like the effect the different shades of lilac and pink have created.  I have also used more bling than normal for me but it works.

Emergency Crafters DT card - Autumn Leaves

When I saw this image I fell in love with it because it reminded of my eldest daughter, just after she'd started nursery.  This was about 16 years ago, so I shall continue to completely embarrass her here: we were walking home past a house with a very old oak tree at the end of it's drive, she shot back to me clutching something in her hand and shrieked "Look mummy I found an apricorn!"

Well as you can guess I had to use this image.

I mounted some autumnal shaded paper onto a card blank, coloured the image with promarkers and use nesting dies to cut it out. I then mounted this onto the card and finished with a ribbon and bow.

DT Card - Somewhere over the Rainbow

For this card I used freebies!!!

The backing paper was free with a magazine years ago and the topper was free earlier in the year.  I used promarkers to colour the image, rounded the corners and mounted onto mirri card with the corners also rounded.

I then mounted the backing paper onto an A6 card blank and added the topper.

Simple yet effective and free!!!!

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:

DT Card - White and one other colour

I have been trying out some styles of wedding stationery with a view to adding this into my crafty portfolio, for this challenge I decided to use one of the samples I made.

I used Centura Pearl Snow White card for the main card area and the embossed area, I mounted some purple card (most of you who know me know purple is very close to my heart).  I then stamped the text in Versacolour BoysenBerry (?qy sp?) and then clear embossed over the top to give it a shimmer.

The birdcages are from cake wraps that I cut the borders off.  I have plans for making this much easier to so in the future.

I hopr you like it and feel inspired to join us at Emergency Crafters, see the button on your left!

The end of a most trying week

So far this year has been full of ups and downs of mammoth proportions.  Andrew was invited to the Royal Garden Party in May, massive high, sadly his grandad died the day we got back, massive low.

We muddled through and had got back to some semblance of order and I had got back to work.

I got us tickets to celebrate the Paralympic flame at Beamish on Friday evening, saw a young man who had been an Olympic torch bearer, massive high point.

Sadly this had been marred by the news earlier in the week that my post is to be "disestablished" and therefore I would be placed into redeployment with the prospect of redundancy, massive low blow.

I still had my stall at a music festival to look forward to.  So Saturday morning began with the forecasted overcast drizzly weather, but being stout northern folk off we set.  we got the stall set up under the cover stand area, just unloaded everything and taken my pics to tweet and load on here when the rain really started to come down.

The organisers then moved us stall holders into the 2nd music stage tent, where at least it was dry and we could also enjoy the music.  This was great news, apart from by 3pm and after hearing 3 bands and seeing about 15 people (most of which were stall holders and other band members) we packed up to come home with not a single sale to show for it.

This was my final low blow.

A curious piece of art work

The project below was done as an experiment for me, but was also done for a DT that sadly is no longer running.

I used a 4X4 inch glass picture frame and covered the non aperture area in metallic paint (to be honest it didn't work too well and had to be done several times to get a decent coverage).  I then went to work with my scissors  on a sheet of Graphic 45 Olde Shop of Curiosities.

Have you now recovered from that revelation, coz I'm damn sure I haven't.  It still smarts!!!!!

I used the boot (another fixation of mine according to the OH) as the central image and used various bits n pieces of the paper to add interest.  I used Tim Holtz Tissue Tape down the right hand side and some metal letters to spell curious in a bit of a random way.  Grunge board for the key coloured with acrylic paint and dirtied down with distress inks, the lock was a brad that I cut the lugs off.  The eyes of the Moth above the aperture were given the glossy accent treatment and the ribbon is from 7 Gypsies (I think).

The tag is a wooden embellishment I had sprayed with cosmic shimmers ages ago to use at some point with the eyetest sticker added and sepia accents were added to dull it down

Cue boring amount of photos:

DT card - Tea and cake

Hi guys here is my card for the current challenge over at Emergency Crafters.

For this card I embossed an A6 card blank and went over with a pink Tim Holtz distress ink, I then matt and layered the image, which is from the Tulip range from Do Crafts.  I then added the sentiment.  A nice quick and simple make but very effective.

I hope you like it and feel inspired to join in with the challenge.  Blog button is on the left of the screen.

August??? Are you sure

As you can tell I have been somewhat over tired now I am back at work full time, so I'll just add a few things I've been up to on the odd occasion I have crafted.

I do intend to do much better tho.

Catch up - July 2012

I'm very ashamed to say I have been neglecting the crafting of late, sadly I haven't had the energy on a weekend now I am back at work.  Things seem to be heading in the right direction though, so last weekend I had a good old crafty play.  I did a few sample wedding invitations as shown below:

I have also entered a couple of magazine competitions, but as the closing dates have well and truly passed and I have not heard anything I can assume I am safe to show those here too:

I hope you like what I've been up to and hopefully, I will be more regularly updating you with my work.

I can now reveal all

Well the secret can now be revealed, my husband was invited to attend the Royal Garden Party for 25 yrs service to the NHS and obviously I had to tag along.  All I can say is it is a truly surreal experience, but one you should certainly take the opportunity to experience if you get the chance.

Andrew's grandparents and parents were very proud of him for receiving the honour. Sadly tho, Granda passed away within an hour of us returning home, so there is a sadness as well to the whole affair.

All in all a day we will never forget.

Thanks to all who have sent their condolences already, and thanks for all the well wishes.

What a Pallarver

Well, that's the Scotland part of the holiday done.  Had to be cut short by a day as an elderly family member has been admitted into hospital, not too bad, losing the one day, but it was the hottest day of the year and a 4 1/2 hour drive in incar temps of 29 degrees celcius is not pleasant.  Anyway, good news is Grandad is doing ok, it does appear to be a stroke, but he's managed 95 years so far, I reckon he's got a good few left in him yet.

There is, however, further excitement, and I can't reveal it as yet but as soon as I can I shall post some pics.

Here a few holiday snaps to keep you going.

Happy Birthday to a Very Special Lady

This card is for a very special friend of mine, she is a wonderful lady and has battled hard against the dreaded "C" word over the past few years.  I can truly say I am proud to know her and call her my Twitter Mom.

I made it using the Black and Silver from Create and Craft, this kit is about 3 years old now and does only come out for "special" cards as I totally love it, the black card is just yummy, and the silver foil on the diecut sections for decoupage really pops.

Hoping you have a special day my friend.

Spots and Stripes

Whoopie it's Friday!!!!!  That can only mean one thing a new challenge at Emergency Crafters, follow the link on your left to the blog to enter.  This week's theme is Spots and Stripes and below is my card for it.  You have time as submissions close at Noon (GMT) on Wednesday 23rd May.

I am also hoping you like the changes I have been making GRADUALLY to the blog and it's layout, and now I have my new camera you will see improvements in my pics as well.

Thanks for dropping by.

Have a Whopper of a Birthday

Now as a few of you may know, for last year's NEC a small group of dedicated Create and Craft fans decided to show their appreciation of a certain presenter of the channel, namely Martyn Parker.  Now he is not a crafter and has never purported to be one, however, the rapport he has with the demonstrators and the cheeky boy style he has endeared him somewhat to our hearts.  Thus a group known as OUPSS (The Official, Unofficial Parker Stalker Society)was born.  It was named such so that his most favourite catchphrase could be incorporated into the group's name.

There has been rumour that a blog for this group exists, but has been quiet for some time.  I have inside information however, that once the insidious perpetrators of the rumour have been found and trained in IT, it will once again spring into life.

I digress.

Well the card below was made for said presenter as he is celebrating a milestone birthday today, and, as he had the good grace not to mention my age on air when wishing me happy returns of the day, I shall thusly return the favour.

In truth anyone who watches the channel will know anyway.

Martyn is a keen fisherman which is why I used this decoupage image from La Pashe/Just Inklined for the main image.  It was matted and layered using co-ordinating cardstock and mounted onto a 6X6 scalloped card blank.

Well have a ver Happy 50th Martyn and I hope you enjoyed the Grand Prix

DC & Marvel

The two cards below have been made using the DC & Marvel Comic kits from Hobby Habit and Create and Craft. Sadly it would appear that these didn't grab the "average" crafter's eye and they have not, as far as I am aware, released anymore, which for me, really is a shame!  My husband runs a Model Club the Film and Television Model Club who are celebrating their 20th anniversary in September of this year, the Publication Drone, which is their magazine, is the longest running of it's type in the world (we believe).

Many Dronettes are massive comic book fans and with all the movie tie-ins over the past two or three years, I assumed it would walk.  Sadly that does not appear to be the case, however, I did manage to get several of each of the kits and have made the cards below for Dronettes birthdays.

For the penguin card, I added a wall decal for the main image and think putting it on the blue acetate really lift's the image.

I hope you like the cards, and I hope there are more people around who don't want the main stream teddies and flowers, but like the odd and off the wall too.
